Cylinder Head Services

As the trusted Subaru engine specialists in the area, we have provided expert engine solutions for many years. Previously, we collaborated closely with multiple machine shops to ensure precision in every build. However, we are now proud to offer in-house machining services, eliminating the need for outsourcing.

With our state-of-the-art equipment, we can now perform all cylinder head and block machining services directly in our facility, ensuring greater quality control and efficiency.

JM Machining Process

Thorough visual and dimensional inspection to identify any damage or worn parts that need to be replaced. Cams and journals are inspected for scoring. Valve lash is checked before tear down when applicable. Valve stems and guides are measured for clearance.

Each cylinder head is thoroughly cleaned to remove any debris and carbon build up. All oil galley plugs are removed to clean the hard to reach spots where metal shavings could be sitting and missed.
We have 2 parts washers (Axe Spray Washer and Cuda Parts Washer), an UltraSonic Cleaner, Media blaster, and soon a Vapor Honing Machine.
Guides get measured and worn valve guides may need to be replaced. The EJ engines commonly have the guides drop or wear to outside or near the spec. We are replacing guides on MOST EJ cylinder heads. Most commonly we replace them with GSC bronze guides with stoppers to prevent them from dropping. They also dissipate heat better.
We have all the proper tools and equipment to remove worn guides and replace them with new ones.
Valve seats get pitted and worn due to heat, abuse, and age. Worn valve seats are re-cut to ensure a tight seal with the valves.
We have a brand new top of the line Rottler SG9MTS outfitted with the latest tooling.
Worn valves get re-ground to do its part to ensure a tight seal with the freshly cut valve seats. Valves also get pitted and worn due to heat, abuse, and age. Valves may need to be replaced if beyond worn or bent.
We have a Kwik-Way Valve Grinder/Refacer that allows us to get perfectly cut valves and take off some of the stem to help set the lash. With Precise grinding and measurements on everything.
Head surfaces get warped over time. We always mill the surfaces flat.
We have a brand new top of the line Rottler S85A. This is a CNC automatic surfacing machine.
The cylinder heads are reassembled once all those services are complete
We have a CF-500 valve spring compressor bench that allows us to quickly and safely disassemble and assemble your cylinder heads. We have tons of sorting trays to keep everything organized.
Due to wear and the material being taken off during rebuilding the cylinder heads, the valve lash needs to be reset. Where applicable, we can set the lash to spec for you. The turbo EJ model heads it is pretty standard to bring the carriers, cams, and buckets. Some other models it will be cheaper to not bring the upper carriers and do the lash yourself. This will play into pricing depending on the cylinder head and what you bring.
We have all the proper tools and equipment to measure and set your valve lash where applicable.
